Dubai Cyber Security Strategy was announced in September 2017 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to cement Dubai’s reputation as a prominent driver of innovation, safety, and cybersecurity. Continue reading to discover the perks hidden in Dubai’s cyber security strategy. The article explores the execution of five main parts of the approach.
Why Does Dubai Need to Implement This Strategy?
More than 91 percent of people living in the UAE used the internet in December 2016. The UAE’s internet-based economy is still booming. Cloud computing, IoT, and digital cities are all examples of new advancements that take advantage of cyber space’s interconnection. Consequently, Dubai’s Cyber Security Strategy boosts the exposure of residents to a more internet-exclusive economy.
The strategy will enhance global connections, reduce threats and risks associated with cyberspace, and minimize the breach of privacy. Further, both the public and private sectors will gain from the enhanced web and mobile technology.
To Achieve Strategic Objectives, are Guiding Principles Needed?
It is imperative for cyberspace to stay receptive to the latest ideas and allow sharing of information without any restriction so people can access cyberspace regarding technology, opportunity, and skills. As a result, attaining the strategic objectives requires more than just guiding principles but also collaboration, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Dubai’s public sector alone is not equipped to manage cyberspace, which is interconnected in multiple directions and cannot be dealt with solely by the government. The public and private sectors must work together in Dubai to implement the cyber security strategy.
How Should Cyber Security Be Implemented?
The strategy includes the following five main domains that will be executed to accomplish cyber security goals along with guiding principles.
Cyber Smart Society as The First Domain
This area works to develop awareness among people regarding digital crimes or cybersecurity issues and emphasizes the significance of cyber security. This domain aims to grow a generation that is fully conscious of the risks posed by cybercrime. It aims to help the government, private sector, and the people of Dubai gain the necessary knowledge and skills to deal with cyber security threats.
Innovation as The Second Domain
The second domain is focused on developing fair and secure cyberspace with innovation, research, and development in Dubai.
Cyber Security as The Third Domain
This area tries to provide rules for maintaining data confidentiality, reliability, accessibility, and integrity to create secure cyberspace.
Cyber Resilience as The Fourth Domain
It will ensure that cyberspace remains flexible and IT systems can be readily available and accessible in the event of cyber threats.
National and International Collaboration as The Fifth Domain
This area works to establish global and local collaboration mechanisms for combating cyber risks or fraud by building partnerships with different sectoral groups.
