In collaboration with Coins.ph, inDrive, and Hivemapper, the Philippines has adopted a ground-breaking strategy for transportation by revealing its first fleet driven by blockchain technology. Launched on December 5, this project aims to support a decentralized mapping network while giving Filipino drivers access to other revenue streams.
An Audacious Blockchain Integration Step
The project hopes to demonstrate how blockchain technology might have practical applications through this partnership. “We are revolutionizing the construction and monetization of physical infrastructure,” said Wei Zhou, CEO of Coins.ph. This illustrates how blockchain may empower people and promote economic development.
Combining Ride-Hailing and Blockchain
The project integrates blockchain with conventional ride-hailing services using DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) technology. Hivemapper’s mapping devices are installed in vehicles, enabling drivers to gather and contribute real-time mapping data while navigating Metro Manila.
The hyper-accurate data provided by this decentralized mapping technique is crucial for location-based services, traffic control, and urban planning.
Rewarding Contributions to Mapping
In exchange for their contributions to mapping, drivers that take part in the program receive $HONEY tokens. The Coins.ph platform allows for the management and storage of these tokens. Drivers have the option to use tokens anyway they see fit or exchange them for Philippine Pesos (PHP).
“This entails converting drivers’ daily commutes into additional revenue,” Zhou clarified.
Driver Empowerment through Blockchain Possibilities
This collaboration is part of a larger effort to use blockchain innovation to promote sustainable revenue streams. “We’re redefining driver engagement and addressing economic challenges by offering drivers an additional income stream,” said Sofia Guinto, Head of Business for the Philippines at inDrive.
Drivers have more earning freedom because the rewards system places more emphasis on the caliber of mapping data than the quantity of rides completed.
Overcoming Implementation Difficulties
One of the difficulties in using blockchain-powered mapping devices was training drivers who were not familiar with the technology. The collaboration has concentrated on developing easily available bitcoin education materials in order to get around this.
Guinto stated, “We are working to ensure that all drivers can engage with the program with confidence.”
Another major worry was privacy. In order to solve this, Hivemapper implemented data privacy precautions, such as employing anonymous usernames and obscuring identifiable details.
